The University of Hartford’s Hartt School invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Music Industry beginning in Fall 2018. The ideal candidate will also serve as chair of a growing department.

The program in Music Industry, a single unit comprised of three distinct degree offerings, is an exciting leap forward, intermingling our current programs in Music Production Technology and Music and Performing Arts Management. The process of creating , recording, producing, marketing, promoting, distributing, touring and managing careers in music are all part of a broad continuum of requisite skills for students interested in becoming future industry leaders.

Through coursework and practical learning opportunities in music performance, recording and production, arts administration, and entrepreneurship, the program prepares graduates with broadly transferable skills to thrive in extraordinary careers in the rapidly expanding music industry – at record labels, publishing companies, live music venues, non-profit arts organizations; as performing artists, recording engineers, or project studio owners, prepared to manage one’s own or someone else’s career.

Required Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred or equivalent professional experience in key industry areas which may include: music management, entertainment industry studies, business, music, music recording and production, music technology or other related disciplines.

Demonstrated management, academic leadership or other appropriate administrative experience is required, as is significant industry engagement and a minimum of 3 years successful university level teaching experience in relevant areas of the program.
