Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Recording Industry (Audio Production) at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant/associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2023. The position is contingent upon funding.
Excellence in teaching, research/creative activity, and service is expected. The successful candidate is expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the following areas of audio production: studio recording, mixing, music production, sound reinforcement, sound for visual media, electro-acoustics, immersive sound, or other audio production areas. In addition, the successful candidate will conduct research or develop creative products in their areas of specialization.
Required Education
A terminal degree in Recording Industry or a related field is required. A master's degree with five (5) years or a bachelor's degree with ten (10) years of professional experience in sound engineering or audio production may be considered. One year of experience is in addition to what is required for those with a master's or bachelor's degree.
Required Experience
A minimum of one year of professional experience in sound engineering or audio production is required.
Other Desirables
Applicants with the following will receive special consideration:
- Proven success in production and engineering of commercial recordings
- Proficiency in more than one of the following disciplines: music production and engineering; sound for picture; interactive media; sound reinforcement; immersive audio; broadcast audio
- Evidence of high-level professional work as an engineer or producer
- Experience teaching college-level courses and curriculum development
- Evidence of strong industry relationships
- Proficiency with presentation technology and online/remote course delivery tools
