CSU Music Business in the College of Business at Colorado State University seeks to fill two Adjunct Instructor positions starting FALL 2025.
Area of Specialization: Music and Entertainment Industry
Primary Job Duties: Ideal candidates will bring with them meaningful and in-depth expertise derived from their experience as a music business educator, or at an entertainment law firm, music publishing company, record label, Digital Service Provider (DSP), artist management company, music publisher or licensing firm, concert promoter or production company, performing rights or collections organization, venue management or operations, and/or other related practical experience. The position affords the right individual an exciting opportunity to contribute their background to teach and mentor highly motivated students, to serve the community and to work with colleagues who are well-respected members of the music industry.
A successful candidate will have significant and current experience in the evolving global music industry as it relates to operations, logistics, licensing, analytics, and revenue streams. It is preferable that the candidate also has prior teaching experience at the college level. All candidates must be committed to working for the professional success of all students.
Minimum Qualifications: (1) Applicable degree in order to teach in one or more of the following areas of the music and entertainment business: marketing analytics, artist management, music business revenue streams, agency, copyright and/or entertainment law, intellectual property, recording industry, music publishing, concert and event production and promotion, communications, finance, sustainability, and music business marketing. (2) Or substantial executive-level experience in tandem with undergraduate degree.
Preferred qualifications: Previous university teaching experience in a college of business in relevant subject areas. Substantial business experience in relevant subject areas. Experience with multi-media teaching techniques
Courses to be taught include:
BUS 362 - Making Money in Music (Music Business Revenue Streams).
BUS 362 students learn how revenue streams evolved from the era of sheet music to digital downloads. Students develop an understanding of touring, live shows, streaming, publishing, licensing, sponsorships, branding and modern musical entrepreneurship through coursework and guest lectures from music business executives.
BUS 250 Music Business (Shifting the Social Landscape)

BUS 250 hosts stars from music and entertainment. Weekly guests have included artists such as GRiZ, Illenium, Kesha, Joe Walsh, PHISH, and The Avett Brothers, as well as executives who have worked with Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, and Michael Jackson, and/or run major labels, publishing companies, marketing firms and more. Students learn the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in this rapidly growing industry. In this AUCC qualifying course, students will develop an appreciation and understanding of the music and entertainment industry, from festivals and tour promotion to record companies and representation through weekly conversations with luminaries in the industry.

CSU Music Business began in 2020 and currently offers five undergraduate courses to students of all disciplines throughout CSU. The classes host roughly 650 students each academic year, with over 70 students seeking Music Business Certificates and over 40 seeking a Music Business Minor. Existing courses focus on music business revenue streams, principles of music marketing, concerts and live events, large venue operations and management, and profiles in the entertainment and music industry. All of the classes include exposure to sustainability withing the music industry in keeping with CSU’s prominence in sustainable business. CSU Music Business instructors and staff report directly to the Chair of the Marketing Department.
